Property | Future Proofing Terrace
Monday, 23 May 2022
Dear members of the Terrace Family

The College has been in discussions with the Salvation Army in recent months to explore the potential purchase of the property at 28 Quarry Street, Spring Hill, known as Pindari.

I am pleased to advise these discussions have been successful, and the College has recently signed a contract to purchase Pindari and will take possession of the property by the middle of this year.  This is an exciting outcome and a strategic decision that will benefit Terrace students, staff and parents, now and into the future.

Pindari, which was previously owned by the Salvation Army, provided crisis and short-term accommodation for people in need. This centre was closed approximately two years ago.

Pindari is situated on approximately 3,600mof land, comprising a six-storey building with offices, accommodation and recreational spaces.  It is located adjacent to our Waterford campus and across the road from our other property at 184 St Paul’s Terrace, which is currently utilised by the College as a gym and oval space.  The chance to purchase Pindari was initiated by the Salvation Army and presented a strategic opportunity that the College could not pass up for our current students and importantly, for future generations of Terrace students.  The College regards the purchase of Pindari as a strategic investment equal to the purchase of the Waterford site 15 years ago.

Some preliminary discussions regarding possible options for how the College could use the property in the short term and over the longer term have already occurred.  Our initial thoughts are to link this site to Waterford, which will become a Year 9 campus from Semester 2, 2022 and create a seamless learning and performance space for students.  Practically, this would enable us to move some Year 9 class spaces into Pindari, which would in turn allow the College Music Program to move into the lower floors of Waterford.  Other potential opportunities include creating a dedicated ‘exam centre’, particularly for older students, which would free up space on the main campus.

This acquisition will also reduce traffic congestion in the local community by further dispersing the current number of students to an additional campus.

The new property provides an exciting range of short, medium and long term options for the College, and will strongly position Terrace to provide a quality learning environment, with modern facilities and excellent educational experiences for current and future generations of Terrace students.

It is important to stress that our motivation for acquiring Pindari is to provide contemporary facilities to enhance our pedagogical practices, rather than being part of any plan to grow our student population.

The acquisition of Pindari will now necessitate a revision of the College’s Masterplan.  This work will be undertaken over the next 12 months and will enable us to present a cohesive 5-10 year vision for the various campuses to the Terrace Community.

I will keep the Terrace Family updated on the future plans for Pindari.

Regards
